Freestyle with Yupo

Those of you who have read my bio will know that I spent 10 years in Spain. I was particularly influenced by the colours of the terrain - locally there were old lead mines that left beautiful spoil hills showing all the minerals to be found in the soil. Rich reds, green/blue copper deposits and purples. When it rains large lakes stained with these colours are stunning. This lead to my series of paintings “Mineral Colours”. Recently I have been experimenting with Yupo paper and inks to produce paintings reflecting these rich colours.

Yupo paper is synthetic, recyclable and waterproof. The surface is smooth, shiny and bright white. The finish means that the inks move around freely, merging with other colours . This movement continues until the surface is completely dry. It can take several hours to see the final results. If you don’t like the results it is possible to wipe off the inks with a damp cloth and start again. I usually “fix” the end result with a light satin spray

Look out for my new work in this series on artistsboth.com

I love the unpredictability and would encourage you to have fun and give it a go.
